How to move Supervisor 3.6 from a Windows 7 computer to a Windows 10 computer

How to move Supervisor 3.6 from a Windows 7 computer to a Windows 10 computer

  1. Copy the C:\Logitek or C:\Logitek 3.6 folder where all of your software is located to a portable drive. (Tip: delete the files in the AE Comm Log and Network Log folders so you're not backing up several gigs worth of old logs.)
  2. Move that folder to the new machine in the root of C and create your shortcuts. (in other words, on the new machine, you want everything in C:\Logitek just like on the old one.
  3. Right-click on the icon for all of the EXE files you want to use, go to Properties, and set the Windows compatibility mode to Windows 7. Also while you're in Properties, set the program to "run as administrator" so AE Config and Supervisor get the rights to write to the registry.
  4. The first time you open Supervisor, you will see that the COM port assignments are missing. This is because that's stored in the Registry on the old computer. Once you have your COM ports installed on the new PC you will be able to assign these. You do this on the right-hand side of the Audio Engine Log page. Highlight the engine, click Edit, select the COM port, then Ok. Sometimes you will need to close Supervisor and restart it before you can ping the engine after you assign it, sometimes it pings right away.
  5. Once you have assigned the COM ports to your engines, everything will be exactly as it was on your old PC, as all of the other files you care about are in C:\Logitek. All of Supervisor's settings and customizations (other than the COM port list that's in the registry) reside in files named Supervisor3.6.xxx. As long as you bring those over and you launch Supervisor from the same folder where those files reside, everything will behave just like you're on the old machine.
  6. In general, everything we care about is in that Logitek folder, and you will want to keep everything together in that folder.

Supervisor 3.6 runs in Windows 10 (as long as you set the compatibility as described above) and you're better off using a supported operating system, so if you're wondering if we think you should update your PC, then our answer is yes. :)

If you get an error message saying cannot write ""  then you need to set the EXE to use Windows 7 compatibility mode and tell it to always run as administrator. Same if Windows forgets the COM port assignments. Without admin rights it won't write these things to the registry. By using the compatibility mode in Windows 10 you can abide by this without giving your user full admin rights to everything.
